We started off the trip by spending 1 night in Mapungupwe at Leokwe camp where we met up with Laura, Jeremy, Sue and Garth. The 2nd night was spent at Tshipise where we joined the rest of the Halfway Toyota group. 8 vehicles in all.
After 2 very chilled pleasant days travelling up to the Beitbridge border post, we faced the mammoth task of getting from SA into Zimbabwe without committing any acts of violence.
To say that both sides were completely unorganised is an understatement, although the SA side was a little less so.
We all started off with a sense of humour and were soon taking bets on how long it was going to take us to get across both sides...
The formalities on the SA side took just over an hour. Including Paul's effort at being a Good Samaritan by assisting a lady who was travelling on her own and now had a flat battery. On the Zimbabwe side, it took over 3 hours of queuing, completing forms, paying fees and taxes, queuing some more, paying more taxes and getting more stamps!
We finally got to Mabalauta in Gonarezhou at 16h00.
